Bianca Varbaro - Visual Artist

Bianca Varbaro’s art practice is an investigation on how to give a photo a 'new life' through the use of colour, material and form. To help get to the end product, the act of taking photos is first executed. It is done to understand how compositions and placement is created in the 'real world'. This in turn helps inform her on the structure of the artwork. After the ideas manifest, Bianca abstracts the photo and then uses the method of trial and repetition. There are many different outcomes that can be explored to create the final product.

Varbaro’s artwork centers around paintings. They are created on canvas, calico, PVC plastic and recently she has started to explore plywood and painting directly onto wall. The works then take on sculptural and installation type qualities when presented. The morphing of these materials intrigues her.

This evolving process raises critical questions for her: What does it do to the material? How does it connect to the space? Why is this the outcome?

Her main medium of choice is synthetic polymer paint. By using this paint she is able to layer her colours, this produces a clarity in the works.
